WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU REGISTER?

Once all players have registered, they will be assigned into age grade teams.  Teams will be finalised following the registrations and may take up to two/three weeks.  Coaches will be given a team list and will contact you direct after the school holidays to advise the first training day and time.  Trainings are most likely to be held at Bill Brown Park in Havelock Avenue.

CHANGING TEAMS

Once your child is in a team, parents must discuss with me if they want to change teams.  All requests will be considered fairly, but will not be guaranteed.  We are trying to get all of the children playing rugby, so need to spread them out evenly between teams.

GEAR – Shorts & Socks

We will obtain sizes for shorts and socks when you register.  Gear will be ordered from our suppliers and assuming no manufacturing delays will be distributed by the coaches the week prior to the first game on the 1st of May.  Please come knowing what size your son/daughter is in shorts.  It is advisable to order a size up from what they normally wear as the sizes are a smaller fit.

Sizes available: size 6, size 8, size 10, size 12, size 14, size 16, small mens, Medium Mens, Large Mens, XL Mens.   Socks are sizes Small, Medium or Large

Jerseys are supplied by the club and will be given out each Saturday by the Coach/Manager of the team, but they must be handed back into the coach at the end of the game for laundering.

MEET THE COACH & SKILL DEVELOPMENT – DATES TO BE CONFIRMED

Meet the Coach - We have held this at Bill Brown Park for the past few years and it has been really beneficial for the coaches and players to get together informally with the help of our Senior club players and run some practise/drill stations prior to the start of the season.  If the weather is not on our side, we will try to postpone and hold it if we have enough time before the start of the season.

It is a lot of fun and a good time for the Senior Rugby and junior rugby to interact.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Last day of school is the 2nd of April

First day back is Monday the 19th of April

FIRST GAME – SATURDAY 1st OF MAY

The Saturday Morning rugby draw is posted on the Manawatu Rugby Web-site www.manawaturugby.co.nz each week, or www.kiatoa.co.nz .  Alternatively it is in the Manawatu Standard on either a Wednesday or Thursday, so keep a look out during the season for game times.  Coaches will usually let you know at training, but are not able to call every player each week to let them know when and where the games are.  Parents please use the above resources if you are unsure or if in doubt please make sure you call the coach to find out – Players and parents please take responsibility for knowing when your games are and asking the Coach or Manager if there is any other club news you need to know, especially if your child has missed training J

CONTACT DETAILS

Please provide us with your contact details:  Parents Names, Landline Phone, Cellphone & E-Mail.  Unfortunately if you only have a cellphone as your main contact number then you will need to make contact with the Coaches and Managers if required to find out game times etc.  We apologise for this, but it can get quite expensive for the Coaches & Managers if they have to call a few cellphone numbers each week during the season.

WHERE DO YOU PLAY?

Most games will be played on a Saturday at Ongley Park or Savage Park.  There are teams from Bulls, Rongotea, Pahiatua, Ashhurst, Feilding & Levin who play in the Manawatu competition, so you may have to travel to some of these towns if they have teams in your grade.  You can check out www.manawaturugby.co.nz for details on how to get to these parks or log onto www.wisesmaps.co.nz

WHAT TIME WILL YOU PLAY?

This may be different to the Union draw and is a general guideline only

9am     Under 7 & 8

10am   Under 9, 10 & 11

11am   Under 12 & U13

DO YOU WEAR RUGBY BOOTS?

YES:  All players wear rugby boots.

MOUTHGUARDS

COMPULSORY!  If you don’t have your mouthguard, you cannot play rugby.  Kia Toa will give every paid registered player a free mouthguard at registration, which will be given out by your coach closer to the start of the season.  It is recommended that parents purchase a second mouthguard to have as a back up.

HAVE A GREAT SEASON

Thanks for choosing to play for Kia Toa RFC.  I am sure that you will have a great season and look forward to seeing you on the rugby paddocks and at the Clubrooms from 5pm to 6pm for prizegiving on Saturday nights.  Bring along the family with your fish and chips for tea and enjoy the safe family atmosphere of the clubrooms.
